DNS Record Types
There are many DNS record types and i7MEDIA can support A, AAAA, CAA, AFSDB, ATMA , CERT, CNAME, DHCID, DNAME, DNSKEY, DS, HINFO, ISDN, LOC, MB, MG, MINFO, MR, MX, NAPTR, NS, NSAP, NSEC, NSEC3, NSEC3PARAM, PTR, RP, RRSIG, RT, SOA, SRV, TLSA, TXT, and X25.
Our hosting control panel, Easy Hosting Control can support a smaller subset of these record types; A, AAAA, CAA, MX, NS, TXT, CNAME, and SRV. If you need a record created or updated that is not supported by Easy Hosting Control, please open a ticket and we will be happy to take care of it for you.
Descriptions of DNS Record Types Supported by Easy Hosting Control
- A
- Host Address
- Record Name
- The name of the host. Leave blank to specify the root domain.
- IP
- The IP Address of the host.
- AAAA
- IPv6 Host Address
- Record Name
- The name of the host. Leave blank to specify the root domain.
- IP (v6)
- The IPv6 Address of the host.
- CAA
- Certification Authority Authorization - Allows a DNS domain name holder to specify one or more Certification Authorities (CAs) authorized to issue certificates for that domain.
- Record Name
- The hostname to which the record should apply. For the root domain, add the root domain here. Cannot be blank.
- Record Data
- The CAA record data, for reference see here.
- MX
- Mail eXhange (used for specifying the mail server for a domain)
- Record Name
- The name of the host this MX record will serve. Leave blank to specify the root domain (blank is usual).
- Record Data
- The domain name of the mail server
- MX Priority
- If you have more than one MX record, this value determines the order in which other mail servers should attempt connection. A lower number is a higher priority.
- NS
- Name Server
- Record Name
- The name of the host this NS record will serve. Leave blank to specify the root domain (blank is usual).
- Record Data
- The domain name of the name server
- TXT
- Descriptive TeXT
- Record Name
- The name of the host this NS record will serve. Leave blank to specify the root domain. TXT records are used to specify all kinds of things like Sender Policy Framework (SPF), Domain Keys Identified Email (DKIM), verification of domain ownership, and Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC) authentication
- Record Data
- the text information needed for use-type of the TXT record. This varies depending on the intended purpose of the record.
- CNAME
- Canonical NAME for an alias
- Record Name
- The alias name you wish to use.
- Record Data
- The actual domain name this record will point to.
- SRV
- location of SeRVice.
- Record Name
- Name of the service. This is typically a very specific value dependant on the service the SRV record is for.
- Host offering this service
- The actual domain name of the server running the service.
- Priority
- preference number used when more servers are providing the same service. Alower number has a higher priority.
- Weight
- used for advanced load balancing
- Port
- The TCP/UDP port number on the server that provides this service
